My senior year of college at Illinois State University I was in a minor car accident. There wasn’t any major damage to my car or to anyone in the car so I dismissed it and focused on finishing my education. It was shortly after my accident that I was having chronic headaches. Since my car accident was so minor I didn’t attribute my pain to the accident. I was always fearful of doctors so I was reluctant to go to the doctor to figure out the cause of my headaches, but it was really starting to affect my final year of college. A relative finally recommended that I see a chiropractor in Peoria. This seemed less intimidating to me than a “regular” doctor so I thought I would give it a try.
I made an appointment to see a recommended chiropractor. After a thorough examination and x-rays he made the connection between my car accident and my headaches. I was very skeptical. How could an accident with so little damage cause me so much pain? I began care and my headaches started going away. By the end of my treatment plan I felt better than I did before my accident.
Years later I was having mid back pain and remembered the relief I got from seeing a chiropractor in the past. However, I like many people, didn’t have any chiropractic insurance coverage so I didn’t make an appointment and I continued to get worse. It was to the point where I didn’t have full range of motion in my arm and the pain got so bad I decided I would go to the emergency room so I could get relief. The doctor took x-rays and determined that there was nothing broken so he prescribed pain medication and told me that if I was not better in two weeks I should see a neurologist. This really upset me that he would not even try to fix my pain and just give me something to mask my pain. The next day I was able to see my chiropractor. He examined me and after one adjustment I had full range of motion in my arm.
This is when I noticed the difference between medical doctors and chiropractors. Chiropractors help patients by getting to the cause of their problem using safe, gentle methods. Medical doctors seemed to be more interested in treating the symptoms. It was at this point in my life that I was thinking about a career change and wanted to do something that would make a difference in people’s lives. Chiropractic had changed my life and I wanted to have the knowledge and skills to help people in the same way.
I attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, where I was instructed by some of the nation’s most highly trained professors. After graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2005, I worked in chiropractic clinics and offices in the Peoria area where I gained excellent experience and knowledge. Gentle techniques are used to accommodate every patient from newborn to elderly, including instrument adjusting and traction methods. These techniques are more comfortable for the patient and they are very effective. In 2007, I decided to open my own practice, Purtle Chiropractic and Acupuncture. I now spend every day "making a difference" in people’s lives. Let us be your one stop for everything health.
In the internet radio show interview above I discuss why I went into the chiropractic profession, conditions chiropractic care addresses and the different adjustment techniques that I employ. Click above to hear the full interview.
